FAQ
Quick answers.
The questions we field most often from Northern Kentucky homeowners. If yours isn’t here, call us, we’d rather answer in person.
Pricing + quoting
- How do you price replacements?
- Flat written quote after a free in-home assessment. The quote itemizes equipment, labor, permits, refrigerant, and any line-set / ductwork work we recommend. No phone quotes, we can't size a system responsibly over the phone.
- What does a typical replacement cost?
- Standard furnace replacements run $4,500–$7,500. AC replacements $5,500–$9,500. Matched furnace + AC systems $9,000–$15,000. Heat pump conversions are higher and usually offset by the 25C tax credit. Every house is different, these are ranges, not promises.
- Is the assessment really free?
- Yes. We'll walk the system, take measurements, ask about comfort issues, and send you a written quote within 24 hours. No deposit, no obligation, no hard sell at the kitchen table.
Emergency + scheduling
- How fast can you get here for an emergency?
- We try our best to respond within 24 hours, often faster when a truck's free. Maintenance plan members get priority slotting. We won't promise a specific window we can't keep; we'll give you a real ETA on the phone.
- Do you work weekends?
- Saturday by appointment for non-urgent work. For urgent situations (no heat in winter, no AC in a heat event), give us a call and we'll do what we can. We'll never promise a window we can't keep, but we move fast when we can.
- What counts as an emergency?
- No heat in temperatures under 50°F, no AC in a heat event above 85°F, a CO alarm, a visible gas leak, or water coming out of the furnace. For anything life-safety (gas smell, CO alarm), For actual emergencies (gas smell, carbon monoxide alarm), leave the home and call 911 first.
Equipment + brands
- Why do you mainly install Tempstar?
- Good equipment at a fair wholesale price, solid parts availability, 10-year parts warranty when registered. It's the brand where the price-to-reliability ratio works best for our customers. We'll install Carrier, Lennox, Trane, or American Standard if you prefer, usually for a modest uplift.
- Do you service brands you didn't install?
- Absolutely. We service all major residential brands. The only limitation is manufacturer warranty, if a unit is under warranty with a different dealer, we can still do the repair but parts coverage needs to go through the original installer.
- Is a heat pump really a good choice in Northern Kentucky?
- For the right house, yes. See our heat pump replacement page for the detailed breakdown, including the 25C federal tax credit and dual-fuel pairing.
Warranties + maintenance
- What warranty do I get?
- Equipment: 10-year parts from Tempstar (most lines) when we register within 90 days, which we do automatically. Labor: 1 year standard, extended to lifetime-of-equipment for maintenance plan members.
- Is the maintenance plan worth it?
- If it catches one avoided emergency call, it paid for itself. If it catches a cracked heat exchanger early, it might save your family's health. Plan customers typically recoup the annual cost every 2–3 years in avoided repairs.
- Can I skip tune-ups?
- You can, but we don't recommend it. Modern high-efficiency equipment is more sensitive to neglect than the old 80% furnaces it replaced. One skipped tune-up per year is usually fine. More than that and we start seeing efficiency drops and reliability issues.
Financing
- Can I finance a replacement?
- Yes, through our partner Hearth. Soft-pull pre-qualification, fixed rates, 3–12 year terms. See the financing page for full details.
- Do you offer in-house financing?
- No, Hearth handles all the lending. That's deliberately separate from the service relationship. We don't want you feeling pressured about price because we hold your note.
